Barrett and I just watched a Hannity clip on Tim Tebow. For those of you who are not familiar with the Tebow phenomena, he has been the Broncos QB for the past 7 games or so. When the Broncos’ original QB produced more L’s than W’s, Tebow got the reluctant nod for a game. His college option style was unheard of in the NFL so his entire team needed to adapt to his leadership. He has won all but one of the games he has played. So why is he on Hannity? Because the entire playbook was changed to fit his college option style? Nope. Because of the respect his team gives him on both sides of the ball? Nope. Maybe because he has become a fourth quarter QB who shines when it matters most by winning games in the fourth quarter or overtime. Well, sord of. He was on Hannity because he unashamedly gives all the credit for his talent to Jesus Christ. He plays for the glory of God. The press hates it, the sports announcers don’t know what to do with it, but the fans love it! He is a gentleman on and off the field giving time and money to handicapped kids and other charities. He comes to work early and leaves late and we are told he works harder than any player in that locker room. He kneels in thanks before and after each game with fellow Broncos, the opposing team, or whoever shares his faith. We are thankful for a Godly role model who seems to be genuine on and off the field.
Just before that clip, I was listening to talking heads bemoan RI’s governor, Lincoln Chaffee, change the state Christmas Tree to a Holiday Tree. He says he doesn’t want to infringe on anyone’s belief system despite the fact that this has been a tradition for hundreds of years in the state.
Funny. Colorado and Rhode Island are sharing the spotlight once again in our lives. The New England political correctness verses the Tebow meekness. I pray that Tebow’s character will be consistent even if the Bronco’s get a loss. That people will see that the Savior is not a rabbit’s foot to rub to win, but a God who has already won by defeating our sin on the cross.
And secretly, I hope that loss comes Sunday when the Pats play the Broncos. =0) Im just sayin….
