The Pats lost. I can’t believe it. I woke up at 4:30 am to be ready for the live game and my excited body didn’t even realize the hour. Then one mishap after another was played upon the frown wrinkles on my face. We had a wonderful week of many exciting events and yet Im still reeling on the fact that the green banefully beat the Blue. Its pitiful yet common how many times one small event can make a difference in a smile or a scorn.
Barrett will be deployed in just a couple of weeks so we scurried to find a place to live in a hurry. We have been praying for a space with specific specs even before we found out our new duty station, and you know what? The Lord laughed at our laundry list of details and fulfilled every one! We have four bedrooms, a big kitchen, BBQ’ing neighborhood, coffee shop within walking distance, and a beautiful floor! Not only that, but it is in walking distance from a simmering sea wall , playful park and a bodacious beach! Plus, its brand new! One SMALL little weird detail…the walls are all pink. Yup, PINK. The Lord laughed literally for me on that one! So some creative decorating is needed on my part. We will move in on Tuesday and Wednesday as all of our stuff has now landed on the beach of Okinawa! Praise the Lord!
This week also offered up a General briefing breakfast where I was able to meet all of the commanding officers and their staff that Barrett will be working with for the next few years. Despite the runny eggs and rubbery potatoes, the morning was a blast. That night we also had our spouse pre-deployment meeting where we were updated on when, where and what Barrett and the others will be doing. It was very helpful…although I can’t give details. =0) I can say that he is leaving in a couple of weeks for a couple of months.
We also managed a two-hour island trip to the aquarium in the rain to see the fish that could easily swallow Jonah, stingrays that were so big they looked liked magic carpets in water, and a dolphin show where we shivered and didn’t understand one word! I got to explore Kadena Air Force base by getting lost…a lot, Barrett met his men and got acquainted with what he will do on his MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit), and we tasted Mexican food Japanese style. AND, we just got back from getting toilet paper, curtains, and cupboard shelf protectors from the Exchange so we can move in our place tomorrow!!
So many titillating things to be thankful for! So many surprises and answers to prayer! So how can a simple football game put a lamp on my heart? Isn’t that how life goes? We forget to be thankful for the many while complaining about the one. Lord help me to be quick to praise and thank you for the beautiful painting rather than point out its crooked.
