“You ready for our date night?” Barrett asked last night. “Yeah!” Betsy is visiting her entire family in Salt Lake City these week for her Granddaughter’s wedding so we have been getting some work done that she has wanted for years! The place looks great and we have been enjoying our free time. Last night was to be our first dinner date night in awhile. We were given a couple of gift cards for graduation so I went to grab one as we were leaving. Well…they were no where to be found. Eegads! We searched junk drawers, desk drawers, graduation cards, the closet, everywhere! We asked each other what we would have done if we had them. No luck, nothing was in the usual locations. Ever felt like that? Honestly, once we prayed I found them in the back of a desk drawer (which I had checked three times before) where they must have fallen from the one above. We gave thanks and went to leave when Barrett thought he should call to see if we needed reservations. They had no openings. Dough! Well, we took the other card and headed out an hour later than planned and starving!
Dinner was a blast and we discussed our days as we downed chips and queso. We had plans to head to a movie theater to catch a movie, so we ate the last morsels on our plate and headed out. One of Barrett’s friends works at the theater so he was going to give us free tickets. What a huge blessing! But when we got there, all the movies are full! Too funny! Well, he gave us tickets for tonight and we decided to watch another movie online at home from our computer. By this time my stomach started to complain. We got home and finally settled down to a 9 pm showing and began our show only to have it time out after an hour and ask for money for us to continue! Holy Cow! We punted as his stomach was now starting the same chorus as mine. So much for that queso! We turned off the computer and fell asleep.
Why the story? I was struck by how well Barrett handled the situation. I was pretty tired. That translates into brutal honest and no brain-mouth barrier. I remarked on some needless things and he let them go. There was also no blame shifting or complaining in the midst of the forks in the road. Our marriage has really been an amazing picture of the grace of God to me (I won’t mention the wrath of God here…hee hee). Barrett has been so gracious when I am not. He is always ready to give affection even when Im behaving ugly. He serves me when I don’t deserve it, just like Christ served us by dying on the cross when we didn’t deserve it. I am so thankful for my husband. His sacrificial love humbles me and is a poignant illustration of the love of the Lord. I really don’t deserve him.
Our stomachs are better so we are off to finish what we started!
