Our spring break was productive in an unusual way. We had 2 ½ “Got Junk” truck loads of stuff taken out of the basement…including a refrigerator that had been unplugged and closed for 10 years with food still in it, canned goods that were so old they were leaking, and all the other stuff that was water damaged from the flood. Then we had people come with dehumidifiers and mold spray everyday for 4 days while we bought and filled huge Tupperware containers for Betsy’s remaining stuff that was saved. We dusted, mopped, swept, and sparkled up the basement and found out that once the wires were dry we could use the furnace, washer, and dryer! What a huge blessing! We bought water, smoke, and gas detectors and now feel like our emergency needs are stable. After a week of this, we celebrated with air hockey, 3 games of laser tag, sequence, pizza, and ice cream with our friends. What a blast…although laser tag is not my sport!
This week we had a conference from Tuesday to Thursday (Together for the Gospel). Barrett’s pastor from CO came so he took us out for dinner on Monday night which means I only had one class this week! I scurried to get my reading and papers done so I could enjoy the conference. It was amazing! We had men from different main line denominations come and teach on doctrine. They may disagree in some secondary issues of the faith, but the primary issue of the gospel was brought home with a vengeance. Man, it was so encouraging! To hear about why Christ had to die, the sacrifice of ourselves, church discipline, race vs. ethnicity, and being a shepherding Pastor was so uplifting! You should have seen all of the young men there hungry for good doctrine! Phew! It was powerful! PLUS…we got lots of books and lunch with my dear friends the Kuvakas! Man, what a joy to hear how God is working in their lives and church!!
Then on Thursday night we had dinner at John Michael’s house who was the youngest Trustee that Southern Seminary has ever had. He was one of the main catalysts that changed Southern from a liberal seminary back to conservative (~1984-1990). We hung on every word! What a testimony of God’s faithfulness and Providence! It should be a movie! Then, to top it all off, he gave me a compound bow! How cool is that?
Barrett has been sick unto death so the past day or so rest has been the call of duty. Now we are furiously working to get ready for the end of the semester. What a ride! Oh, and remember that earthquake I’ve never experienced? Yeah, we just had one. Im thankful it was small but what an end to a year of cataclysmic events!
