“OTHER LANE! OTHER LANE!” I said enthusiastically as I was trying to write down the poem we had just drafted on our way to our friends (the Powers) baby shower as we were driving in the dark and hitting pot hole covers. “The Powers that be have just added to their family tree. We aren’t pulling your legs, this is from the Craigs. Congratulations! No more enjoyable vacations! Im writing this is the car after our stint at the bar.” We were laughing so hard at our horrible goofy poem. It had been a fun day!
I woke up a little after 5 to start the day and got to running in the 30 degree weather around 6. The other people I pass on my familiar trek always inspire me to keep going, if they can do it, so can I! My fingers were too cold to untie my laces when I got home so I set up the coffee maker while I thawed. Barrett soon came down to make our Saturday morning pancakes (this time with perfect pancake flying air tosses!) and then we headed to church to meet the people going to the new members class. What fun to meet these new peeps as well as hang out with the other young couples that were helping out too!
When we got home we started our school work as this is the last week of classes. Books need to be read, papers need to be written and somewhere along the line, finals need to be studied for! After a bean burrito lunch we went outside into the crisp, fresh fall air and commenced raking Betsy’s millions of colored leaves. We got most of the yard finished before I dove into the neatly stacked pile starting the war. Leaves flew everywhere as we wrestled to get the most leaves on the other person. I lost. We filled up 17 bags of leaves and Betsy was so thankful she sent us on a Starbucks run reward! WOW! We got to say hi to our good friends that work there whom we met by going to the drive through months back and set up another suishi date before heading home with our prize. The added bonus is that Betsy insisted that we go out to dinner for raking the leaves. Man, she is so generous! We worked some more and then decided to go to Café Lou Lou’s which is right down the street. It is so good there was an hour wait so we asked if we could eat at the bar and they said sure. We sat in front of 3 flat screens of college football and ate amazing pizza and a Portobello wrap while joking with the bar tenders and Paul, the graphic designer that was sitting next to Barrett. Turns out he does the Posters for NFL teams, particularly the Green Bay Packers so we picked his brain for stories and heard his take on appreciating art. It was really fun!
The night ended with us looking in the windows of houses to see if we saw familiar faces as we didn’t have the directions to the shower. Once we found it we enjoyed sitting a the feet of the Power’s as they opened their gifts and whispered stupid word games, puns and comments that only we thought were funny. =0) “Man, Im so thankful I married you!” Then from Barrett (probably picking a residual leaf out of my hair), “When are we ever going to grow up?” Sometime simple pleasures followed by heart felt belly laughs are the best balm for tired souls.
