The first thing I do after 5 minutes of trying to get the annoying wrapping and tape off of a new CD is open it to the “Thanks” portion. I love to read who the artists thank and why. I actually do that to all the books I read too, I read the dedications before anything else. I think who or what the person thanks says a lot about who they are and what is important to them. I was struggling with what to write this week as often I feel like my ramblings can be tedious and I don’t want to write just to write. As I was running this morning (in shorts no less due to some freak heat wave after our freezing weather), I began to think about what I was thankful for. Some may seem mundane, others simple, yet I was convicted that so often I take blessings in my life for granted. So, here are some things Im thankful for in indiscriminate mind dumping order:
Running during sunrise on a cool fall morning, fellow joggers with head lamps saying hi as they run past, Betsy announcing that she wants to go out to dinner because she got her hair done, talking with family on the phone, making drive through workers smile and laugh, deliberately stomping crunchy leaves, smelling rain, vacuumed rug, feeling of being freshly showered, a beautiful home, juicy grapefruit, hearing, “Wow, that was a good meal!”, having my best friend live with me, having friends call us at 7pm to come and watch a chick flick with them in our PJ’s, seeing friends in the hall, singing on the top of my lungs with the radio, fluffy slippers, emails from my kids in Thailand, talking with Oot each week, finishing a paper, amazing professors, learning, hearing laughter in the house, switching dinner place settings when Betsy gets up from the table, a good cup of coffee, looking at pictures that remind me of fun times, talking with my new family, seeing Barrett get excited on his birthday, hearing other people tell me how great Barrett is, being held, devotions after dinner, a clean kitchen, a bed made, amazing church friends, having my new families get along, trips…and to end it like most of the CD’s I read, “I would most like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Yeah, I read that a lot, but it really is true! I pray my life will exemplify this fact most of all, that my joy comes from His saving grace! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (“And God Bless us, everyone!”)
